From 1989–1994 Kelley designed and produced bespoke collections of specialty occasion wear. For Fall ’89, she conceived a collection of evening separates around the inspiration she drew from a particular mohair yarn incorporating also aspects of silk georgette, damask and silk velvet. She envisioned the yarn performing as a woven. To achieve the effect she was looking for, she hand appliqued hundreds of yards of mohair onto georgette.
For Spring ’90, Kelley designed a collection of eight evening pieces from a cache of vintage french embroideries of 12 patterns, in a beautiful array of sorbet shades.
